It’s rumored that Apple has re-selected battery suppliers for its iPad tablet computer and MacBook laptop, as Samsung Electronics Company has now stopped to supply batteries for these two types products. Apple’s new battery suppliers are located in China, they are Amperex Technology Limited, hereinafter referred to as the “ATL” and Tianjin Lishen Battery.
Due to the patent battle between Apple and Samsung Electronics, Apple’s adjusting supplier behavior gives the impression as if Apple is trying to alienate Samsung Electronics Company. This week, Samsung Electronics Company modified its lawsuit content against Apple, which extended patent infringement and prosecution to Apple iPad mini and fifth-generation iPod Touch new products. Samsung Electronics claimed when they initially sued Apple, they didn’t know these two products, but these two products also belong to patent infringement, because their design and software are so similar with other Apple products.
Apple large size iPad display is supplied by Samsung Electronics Company, but the iPad mini display supplier is South Korea’s LG. Apple CEO Tim Cook said recently said on quarterly earnings conference call, Samsung Electronics is a key component partner, and at least in the near future, this status will still remain.
