It has been for a while since we last heard about the Qualcomm Mirasol panel, but on the current SID Display Week, Qualcomm brought several concept devices of this reflective display technology.

In Qualcomm’s exhibition stand, the previously released 1.5 inches panel is embedded in an “always on” smartphone and smart watch. But these are just models, Qualcomm said this display will soon appear on third-party devices.

In addition, Qualcomm also unveiled their next generation display: a 5.1-inch panel with up to 2560×1440 (577ppi) resolution. The panel is very clear in image display, but the reflective display is partial to silver color, and the color is not as prominent as other devices. Qualcomm said that the new Mirasol panel is six times in energy saving than the LCD or OLED panels. From practical use, this means that the mobile devices can use for several days without charging. However it will be a long time before you can see it on the market. Qualcomm revealed that this Mirasol panel still needs several years development phase before production authorization.
