On Microsoft Corp. today’s earnings teleconference, the CFO Peter Klein said that Microsoft is in close cooperation with OEM manufacturers and cheap chip manufacturers to develop a cheaper Surface Tablet PC. Currently, two Microsoft’s Surface products, the Surface RT and Surface Pro are priced at $500 to $1,000.

Klein admitted the fact of the Surface product general sales, but he said that Microsoft will absolutely continue to expand sales of the Surface through a variety of methods. Microsoft did not disclose any Surface specific sales figures, but summed up the overall performance of the last quarter in the teleconference.

But according to analyst estimate, since the listing of Surface RT, its probable sales should between 600,000-1,000,000 units, which is only 3% sales when compared with the Apple iPad. In other words, Microsoft is indeed in a great need to expand the Surface products number and more affordable Price. Now the price of a Surface Pro is even higher than a MacBook Pro’s, which definitely makes a considerable part of consumers to abandon plans to buy Surface products.
